The Sewer Rats Release “Too Punk For You” Music Video

Fusing pop punk, 1950’s aesthetic, and American coastal living, German band The Sewer Rats have released a music video for their new single “Too Punk For You.” The video was directed by Michael Winkler at Iconographic.

This is our second time working with Michael, he also did our ‘I Don’t Like You (When Your Girl’s Around)’ video,” says vocalist/guitarist Chris Gin. “He is such a passionate and cool guy and working together just felt really good and natural because he totally knew what we wanted. He knows where we’re coming from and has the same type of 90’s skateboard/punk rock background so the result just completely blew our minds. We had so much fun doing this video since getting into a band fight in a pool has always been on our wishlist. Also, the guy in the video is his dad and his name is Horsti. They both went to Florida to shoot and Horsti even got his first ink in the video. Horsti is so rad. We’re stoked on Horsti!

“Too Punk For You” comes from the band’s stylish, 1950’s soaked new album Heartbreaks and Milkshakes and follows up the single/video “I Don’t Like You (When Your Girl’s Around).” The trio walks a line between Stray Cats-cool, early 90s Social D, and old-school pop punk. They describe themselves as “Mike Ness and Brian Setzer hanging out with Hank Williams, listening to the Ramones while skateboarding and drinkin’ beers on a hot summer night,” a description that doesn’t disappoint. Delivering slicked-back juvenile sing-a-longs about lost love and moving back in with your parents (again), The Sewer Rats are ready to skate their way into your heart.

“Too Punk For You” and the new album Heartbreaks and Milkshakes are available now on Rookie Records via Spotify and iTunes.

The New Age Introduce Latest Single “To Be Alive”

Crafting a sound that inspires introspection, vigor, and hope with a shot of adrenaline is the goal of Columbus, OH natives The New Age. The heavy rock/alternative quartet will be releasing their debut full-length album Placebo on February 23rd and have released the single “To Be Alive”.

This whole album centers around the pain caused by addiction and interfamilial struggles, contrasted by hope and an outlook for a better life found through love, tribulation, and your friends and family themselves,” says vocalist Justin Cotton. “This song follows that pattern, being that it shows a yearning for a better life without said burdens.

“To Be Alive” is preceded by the singles “Temper” and the album’s title track, the latter of which has already accumulated nearly 450K plays between YouTube and Spotify. Often explosive and always melodic, Placebo takes one’s emotions on a journey of hardships and adversity. Underneath it all, there is a feeling that through camaraderie and perseverance, we can help each other push past any obstacle. The record was produced/mixed by Nick Ingram (Hawthorne Heights, City Lights) and mastered by Andrew Wade (A Day To Remember, Neck Deep).

Coat Check Girl Release New Single “Awake”

After gaining over 80K plays on their last single “Audience of None,” the Los Angeles-based alt-rockers Coat Check Girl are back with their latest offering “Awake.” Ushered by a bombastic horn section, the track’s easy-to-move-to vibe has an energy that stays high, all the way up until the last note of guitarist Nate Rich’s harmonic solo.

‘Awake’ is one of those songs that just happened,” says vocalist Andre Rodriguez. “I was just messing around with the guitar one day and the main bass line just popped in my head. That inspired the entire song, we decided to structure the whole thing based on it, and once we had the full body of the song, Nate wrote one of my favorite solos ever.

After fleeing the country of Venezuela amidst political turmoil, Rodriguez started Coat Check Girl initially as a recording project for his senior thesis. The quartet, who borrow their name from Jayma Mays‘ character on How I Met Your Mother, released their first single “Time” in 2014. In 2016, the band released their single “Yellow | Blue | Red,” an emotional track that is aimed at bringing awareness to the ongoing problems in Venezuela.

“Awake” was produced by Latin Grammy Award winning producer Rodolfo “Rudy” Pagliuca and mastered by Scott Levitin (Warner Bros. Records). It’s available now on Spotify.

Brazilian Ska-Punk Band Abraskadabra Debut New Music Video

Brazilian ska-punk band Abraskadabra is gearing up to release their new album Welcome next month, but today you can see the music video for their latest single “The Dream.” The video is a wild ride inside the head of their vocalist Du, depicting a collection of different dreams he has had (which makes you wonder what the hell he’s eating before bed).

Video director Guilherme Lepca says “The process of making the videoclip was inspired by the 80’s punk movement aesthetics (specially Dead Kennedy’s gig posters) and also by 30’s horror movies. Our objective recording the clip was to catch the process of making a new album in a rented house and also the vibe of the band. By mixing noisy pictures, non sense collages and parallaxes we wanted to give the clip a dreamy and dynamic narrative/look.

The new album Welcome delivers Abraskadabra’s own vision of the ska punk essence. Written as a whole band, they searched for a raw punchy sound while exploring the full capacity of melody. Instead of recording in a traditional studio environment, the seven-piece ensemble crammed themselves into an old house and captured everyone’s feelings and motivations in the moment.

Arising in mid-2003, the band has toured all around Brazil and the US, sharing the stage with legends like Bad Religion, Rise Against, Goldfinger, Less Than Jake, and many more. In 2014, the band’s cover of No Use For Name’s “Not Your Savior” was featured in the Fat Wreck Chords doc A Fat Wreck.

It isn’t just the 15-years on the road that settle the power and unity of Abraskadabra, but also the energy and passion they put into the music they create. Being friends first and putting together one of the most interesting punk bands in Brazil.

Momma’s Boy Releases New Single “Want Me Back”

Kansas City, MO-based indie surf rock band Momma’s Boy has returned with their latest single “Want Me Back.” The track is the third and final in their three-part single series, following up “Don’t Talk About It” and “Personalize.” The sensual, groove-driven “Want Me Back” is injected with strong R&B, soul and Motown influence, and is a bit of a departure from the disheveled 60-70’s garage-rock sound of their debut 2017 EP, Liquid Courage.

“‘Want Me Back’ is about the moment you realize somebody likes you the way you like them,” says bassist Jared Bajkowski. “It explores all of the emotions that come with that thrill — giddiness, lust, apprehension, fear. Ultimately, its message is that you can’t live in fear of getting hurt. It’s better to let someone in, be vulnerable, and allow that feeling bloom into something big.

If previous singles “Don’t Talk About It” and “Personalize” represent summer and fall, respectively, “Want Me Back” embodies the glittering hush of winter. The track’s dreamy keys and glossy groove blanket the track in an introspective mist. Contributing lead vocals and songwriting for the first time in the band’s discography, bassist Jared Bajkowski delivers wounded lyrics that explore the rush of starting of something new after recent heartache. “Want Me Back” is a journey through the whole cycle: the invitation to go out, the first move, and the fear that comes with feeling the spark. The chorus ties everything together, reveling in the thrill of mutual attraction. “Want Me Back” was recorded, mixed, and mastered in Studio A at Element Recording Studios by seasoned producer Joel Nanos, with a sparkling clean mix that accentuates all of the track’s quirks.

Born and raised in America’s heartland, Momma’s Boy is God’s honest truth. The four piece’s sound synthesizes elements of psych-pop, surf-rock, and garage rock based in the garage and power pop sounds of the ’60s and ’70s. Quinn Hernandez’s stormy and electric drumming style lays down smooth, body-moving grooves that often explode into furious thunder, while Jared Bajkowski’s melodic and liquid bass lines add a punchy, barking thickness that creates constant motion in the mix. Up front, Peter Beatty’s cool, shimmering guitars and swaggering croon dovetail with Shaun Crowley’s fiery, explosive guitar solos and smoky growl to bring the finishing spark to the group’s sonic experience. Together they emerge with a hooky sound that pushes the boundaries of surf, psych, and garage. Momma’s Boy is proud to have supported such notable artists as HOMESHAKE, And the Kids, LVL UP, Walker Lukens, The Phantastics, and the Architects.

“Want Me Back” is available now on Spotify.

White Knife Study Release New Single and Music Video “Ghosts”

If you’re a fan of dark, existential indie rock like The National and CHVRCHES, then you may have just found your next favorite band. The Portland-based, synth-driven indie rock group White Knife Study has debuted their new single and music video “Ghosts”. The quintet, who borrow their name from a winning hand in the board game Clue, has released their second single, following up the towering synth track “The Quiet“.

‘Ghosts’ is about a guy realizing he isn’t where he thought he’d be in life at this point, but what he has is pretty close to perfect,” says vocalist Sean Howland. “The video was my way of showing that concept visually. It seems dark and cold, but gradually you come to see that you had all you needed.”

The video was shot by Scotty Fisher of Sleeper Studios in Howland’s backyard and was done in one continuous shot. “We actually shot the video to a sped up version of the song and then slowed it down to get a more dramatic effect in the movements,” says guitarist Bryan Calhoon. “Everyone in the film are real friends and family. No actors. We shot this video on the same day as our first video, so it was a pretty long 17 hour day of filming.

White Knife Study formed from the ashes of the heavy, guitar-driven group DIVIDES. The alternative/hard rock band began in Alaska, but later made the move to Portland to make touring easier. After taking a break, a few of the members wanted to create a new project with the ambiance of big synths and hooky choruses. They found kinship with members of another Portland via Alaska band called The Hoons and so White Knife Study was born. The band enlisted producer Casey Bates (Portugal. The ManGatsby’s American Dream) to help bring this new sound to life. The band plans to begin work a full EP this spring.

“Ghosts” is available on Spotify.
